Day of Prayer for Care of Creation – Nov 13, 2008
Thank you for Praying!
“Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.”
James 5:17-18
“And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”
John 14:13-14
We are truly amazed at the response we received from people all over the world to this call for prayer. In addition to Minneapolis, Madison and Limuru, we had people praying in the US in Massachusetts, Ohio, Florida, Kentucky, Michigan, and Washington. Elsewhere in the world, people were praying in Cornwall (UK), Peru, Trinidad-Tobago, Mexico City, Ghana, Mombasa, Mozambique and New Zealand. Doubtless there were many others praying in places of which we have no idea.
What happened? Who knows? We know that as God moved people to pray, his hands are moving to answer those prayers. This passage from Isaiah 55 should be encouraging as we continue to work and wait for the things for which we have prayed:
As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
As the rain and the snow come down from heaven
and do not return to it without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
so is my word that goes forth from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace!
The mountains and the hills will burst into song before you,
and all the trees will clap their hands…!!!

Original Call to Prayer:
Care of Creation is now about 3 and one half years old and in that time, God has done amazing things:
- Through the efforts of Craig and his team in Kenya, thousands of trees have been planted.
- Many hundreds of Kenyan Christians have heard us share our vision that God is calling us to care for his creation.
- Pastors and congregations throughout Kenya have begun practical projects in tree planting, water harvesting and similar efforts to reverse the damage to God’s creation.
- Strategic academic institutions have heeded our call to include this topic in their course offerings, and mission organizations are asking us for counsel as they begin to integrate creation care into their own ministries.
God has done great things and we praise him for all of them…
However, right now (November, 2008) we are facing the most difficult financial crisis we’ve seen in our short history as an organization:
- All of our supported staff – Craig & Tracy Sorley and Jan Korbel in Kenya, and Ed & Susanna Brown and Fred & Stacey Gluck in Madison – need additional funding in various amounts.
- We need about $20,000 to cover current and upcoming operational expenses that are not covered by staff member support raising efforts.
- And most seriously, Care of Creation Kenya only has enough money to pay local salaries and expenses through the end of 2008. In 2009 the Kenya project needs a minimum of $50,000.
We are asking you to join us in prayer for these needs sometime during the day or evening of Thursday, November 13, 2008. Our staff and board members will be joining together in prayer in Limuru, Kenya, Madison, Wisconsin and Minneapolis, Minnesota. If you are in one of these cities and would like to pray with us in person, send us a note at info [at] careofcreation.org and we’ll let you know where and when you can join us.
- If you cannot join us in person, please pray with us where ever you are -
- Include us and our needs in your personal prayer time;
- Ask for prayer in your small-group or church fellowship;
- Send this ‘call for prayer’ to your family, add us to your church’s prayer list, let other members of your campus fellowship know about our needs.
Even in the middle of an unprecedented world-wide financial crisis, we believe our God can provide!
If you can help directly (even small gifts of $10 or $20 add up quickly) you can make a donation here.
As you pray with us, let us know you are participating by adding a comment below telling us where you are praying, how many of you are praying, or add a prayer to this list. We thank you and praise God for you!

Dear Ed & Susanna & Care of Creation staff,
I’m from New Beginnings Church and have done some volunteer work with your organization.
I join with you in asking Jehovah-Jirah, our Provider, to raise a miracle amount of money to cover the budget needs to the last penny and beyond for salaries and operations. I ask the Heavenly Father that He will look with favor upon your work and your heartfelt dedication to serve Him by caring for His creation. He said in Matthew 6:28 and 29 that we don’t need to worry, as we see in His provision for the lilies of the field that neither toil nor spin He provides for them and so will He for people. I ask God that He will not forget your needs also for strengthening, for hope, for food and shelter, medication and clothing that all cost money, that He will not you lack for any of these things. I ask that God will also give you a word of encouragement, guidance and direction.
Do not give up hope in Him!
I will join you in prayer on Thursday, November 13 to ask God for the funding that you need. I will be at my home in Seattle. Prepare to be blessed!
—Elizabeth
We are from New Zealand and are friends of Fred and Stacey. We will be praying for you all and particularly the financial needs of the ministry. We are looking forward to being partners with you in bringing Gods kingdom in fullness to our world and learning more of what Care of Creation ministry is doing.
please we are a congregation, members of the pentecostal affiliation ministries based in nampula , mozambique, we will be standing in prayer with you, there is nothing too hard for the Lord, if he could give water in the wilderness for his people, he is able to provide the additional funding that you need and later provide with the 50000USD to run the project by 2009. that red sea got to split and pave way, by the prophetic anointing in me i declare that you are crossing that red sea, in jesus’ name. brethren just believe.
Praying with you
Dear Ed, Suzanna, Fred and Stacy,
We will be joining you for prayer tomorrow afternoon at 3 PM in our home with a few friends. We thank God for Care of Creation and for those of you who serve so selflessly. We also thank God for times of financial hardship that cause us to cling to Him and trust Him for our needs and then to wait expectantly for Him to be glorified as He answers our prayers.
May you know afresh God’s abundant grace today.
Proverbs 16:3 gives us a promise for today: “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”

From Jason and Nancy in the UK:
Jason and Nancy together with family and friends in the UK will be praying today that God will meet all immediate financial and practical needs to enable Care of Creation to continue and expand this important mission to the world. We will be praying for His guidance and support as we move into new areas of operation this coming year. Jason and Nancy will be seeking His will as we try to establish a Care of Creation presence in the UK.
From friends in Peru:
Greetings cherished brothers in Jesus and God our father.
Thanks for the ministry of prayer. We will be praying for their orders.
With much appreciation
Victoria Gomez and the team Shalom – Peru.
From our staff in Kenya:
Here’s what we are doing this morning here in Kenya.
The whole Care of Creation Kenya team is meeting this morning to both thank God for what He has provided in recent weeks, and to request His provision for future needs. Our focal passage for this morning is Philippians 1:6, which reminds us that “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion…” We are confident that the Lord has started a good work here in Kenya, and we are trusting that He will enable us to carry that work forward.
As we begin praying, we will be praising God for His provision through Tim and Martha Hatch, Mrs. Anna Skaggs, Roger and Connie Aiken, and Caryn and Cameron Sorley, who have recently donated funds towards our project.
We will also be spending a time of focused prayer that God would go before us in the coming weeks as we share our vision and hopes for 2009 with people and organizations right here in Kenya.
While this is something we haven’t done before, we believe that God can work to supply some of our needs from sources within country. We pray that as we embark on this effort, that God will open some unexpected opportunities to shine for Him.
Craig

Thanks for your invitation to join with you in prayer today. I will be meeting with ten botany students in a laboratory here at Cedarville University at 2:00 pm and we will take time to join our hearts with yours in prayer for the ministry of creation care and reconciliation of hearts in Kenya.
In Christ,
John
We will be praying with friends here in Arden Hills MN at 3 PM today. We know that God is glorified when we call on him in prayer. May your hearts be filled with joy as you trust His never ending grace.
